World Spine Day falls on 16th October every year, raising awareness of back pain and other spinal issues. This year’s theme is “Back on Track”. Low back pain is the leading cause of disability, experienced by 50-80% of adults at some point in their life. Coronavirus has forced us to work on our makeshift dining table desks and swap our gym sessions for a Joe Wick’s inspired home workout. This has led to increased reports of back and neck pain. This World Spine Day, we at the Guildford Spine Centre want to help you get “Back on Track”!
Our top tips for staying spine active and getting back on track:
Get moving! From walking to cycling, the NHS recommends adults aged 19-64 years old should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week
Drink plenty of water – 6-8 glasses is recommended to stay hydrated
Sleep tight – Ensure you are getting 7-9 hours of sleep per night to give your body time to rest and heal
Evidence shows it takes around 21 days to form a habit so make a plan, get started and get
#BACKONTRACK!
